Code of Conduct
Our current code of conduct ( which is only required for NBO organisational members and not for NBO Supporter) is as follows:
We agree to promote the aims of the Network of Buddhist Organisations (UK) which are:
a) To promote fellowship and dialogue between Buddhist Organisations.
b) To facilitate cooperation in matters of common interest.
c) To work in harmony with Buddhist and other like minded organisations throughout the world.
In order to maintain harmony and promote Buddhist teachings in the UK, as a Buddhist organisation and member of the NBO we undertake the following:
a) To observe the ethical principles as exemplified by the Five Precepts in all our activities.
b) To undertake that our members will not defame each other’s organisations or teachers in public or through the media.
c) That every effort will be made to resolve any disagreements that might arise within our organisations, or with other organisations or groups, through our internal processes or through private discussion and mediation.
Variants of this code were discussed in 2008 and included with membership renewal documents in 2009. Although NBO Supporters do not need to formally sign up to the code, we assume that they will agree with NBO aims and support the spirit of the code.
Please note that the code is not intended to prevent healthy debate, argument or criticism but specifically asks members to avoid defamation.
