British Buddhism: Teachings, Practice and Development (Robert Bluck)
Paperback Edition (ISBN 978-0-415-48308-7)
Routledge Critical Studies in Buddhism Series (£20)

British Buddhism presents a useful insight into contemporary British Buddhist practice. It provides a survey of the seven largest Buddhist traditions in the United Kingdom, including the Forest Sangha (Theravada) and the Samatha Trust (Theravada), the Serene Reflection Meditation tradition (Soto Zen) and Soka Gakkai (both originally Japanese), the Tibetan Karma Kagyu and New Kadampa traditions and Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. Based on extensive fieldwork, this fascinating book determines how and to what extent British Buddhist groups are changing from their Asian roots, and whether any forms of British Buddhism are beginning to emerge.

Third World TrAid

We are a small company with a shop on eBay and our own website.

We sell a wide variety of Buddhist items, such as prayer wheels, singing bowls, Thankas, prayer flags and very much more. There are also non-Buddhist items such as bags, wallets hats, gloves etc.,
All our merchandise is imported directly from the Third World - mostly Nepal, with a small amount from Tibet and Peru.

After travelling and working in Nepal for some time, Jayne fell in love with the country and its people. She founded Third World TrAid as a means of enabling local people to use their skills to make things that could be sold abroad. Thus improving their poverty but through trade not aid. Trade will enable the economy of these countries to improve the standard of living of their people without charity, and in a sustainable way. The company sticks strictly to this ethos.

Danaloka a retreat cabin, a million miles and 40 minutes from London

Danaloka is a small, privately owned, non profit making organisation which just runs a Retreat Cabin. The owners are associated with the FWBO

Most of the time the cabin is used by people who want to spend a little time alone, away freom the hussle and bussle of everyday life. The cabin is quite ideal for that especially when you consider how quickly you can get there.

It's just 30 minutes from Bow or 45 minutes by car from the City of London and even though it is just inside the M25 it is as if you are deep in the countryside.
