Theme – A Planet in Crisis: the Gifts of Buddhism
BAM
Buddhist Action Month is an opportunity to focus on the practical implications of living by our values as Buddhists today. It’s a time for reflecting on the form our compassion takes, for celebrating what we are already doing and for asking ourselves to do more. BAM was founded by the Network of Buddhist Organisations as a Buddhist Action Day in 2012. It soon became a month – June – inspiring practical action all year round. Individuals, groups and centres take part each year.

This year we are suggesting the theme: A Planet in Crisis: the Gifts of Buddhism. We invite you to reflect on the relationship between our Buddhist practice and philosophy and our beautiful planet Earth. How can we share the gifts of our Buddhist practice with the earth and others, and allow those gifts to sustain us in these challenging times? And how can we, living in (rather than on) the Earth with all its beauty and in its extraordinary biodiversity be sustained by the Earth in our spiritual practice? You might like to watch the video clips of short talks given by six inspiring speakers from different Buddhist traditions at our in-person event at the beginning of the year.
We would like to encourage you to use them as inspiration for action during BAM in June – and all the year round.
There are also many resources in the BAM 2026 handbook for you to use.
If you are interested in sharing ideas and/ or connecting with others from the network, please do get in touch with us at eco@nbo.org.uk. We look forward to hearing from you!
